Guildford Molesworth

Sir Guildford Lindsey Molesworth, KCIE (1828-1925) was the first general manager of Ceylon Railways.

He was a Past President of the Institution of Civil Engineers, a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a Fellow of the University of Calcutta.

He married Mary Elizabeth Bridges and they had four sons and three daughters. Their sons included the astronomer Percy B. Molesworth, Henry Bridges Molesworth, a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers ansd Walter H Molesworth, a member of both the Institution of Electrical Engineers and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers .

He wrote the first edition of the Pocket Book of Useful Formulae & Memoranda for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers in 1862, & which was published through several editions by E & FN Spon Ltd of 57, Haymarket, London. His sons Henry & Walter assisted him at least on the 26th Edition, dated 1909.
